Most, if not all, states require auto insurance, and most
drivers would have it anyway. This is especially true if there
is a lien on the vehicle. Lenders require collision and
comprehensive coverage, and here is something many drivers do
not know. You may have a deductible of $500 for collision and
$100 or $200 for comprehensive, or like me have $250 and
$50. Many drivers don't know what comprehensive coverage is, and
this can cost them money. If for instance, you hit a dog, horse
or cow on the roadway, that falls under you collision coverage.
But, and this is a big but, if you hit a deer, moose, bear or
other wild animal, it falls under comprehensive.
I hear people say when they
hit a deer, "Well, the damage was only $600, and I have a $500
deductible, so I don't want to put it on my insurance." They
don't realize in this case, they may only have a $100
deductible.
Other Scenarios regarding auto
insurance claims:
-
My wife washed the car with
a cleaner that ruined the paint.
Comprehensive
-
I was at my son's little
league game and a foul ball broke my windshield.
Comprehensive
-
A box fell off a truck in
front of me and landed on my hood.
Comprehensive
-
A stove fell off a truck in
front of me and I hit it.
Collision If it hit the
ground first it is collision
